Located at the heart of the University of South Carolina Lancaster’s campus, Founders Hall is a new academic building that offers classrooms, faculty offices, and essential student support spaces.
Designed to enhance the experience on a satellite campus, the building serves as both a functional learning environment and a welcoming destination. Its placement along a prime campus axis allows it to act as a public edge, featuring a transparent glass façade with a canopy and a long bench, which naturally creates a gathering and study area for students, faculty, and visitors.
The interior features a variety of flexible learning environments, ranging from small classrooms to a 75-seat lecture hall, in addition to inviting study nooks, comfortable lounges, an art studio, and a dedicated gallery space. The orientation and openness of the building emphasize daylighting and transparency, with large windows fostering strong connections to the outdoors. The materials reflect a blend of tradition and innovation, with campus-matching brick and a striking zinc-clad rear elevation visible from the highway, reinforcing a progressive identity.
