Planning

With a commitment to enriching student life, Trinity College turned to Little to craft a Housing Action Plan that transforms every corner of campus living.
Through a detailed review of 19 on-campus residence halls—including site surveys, building assessments, and stakeholder engagement—Little developed a six-year roadmap for renovations that prioritized the physical, infrastructural, and experiential aspects of student living. In parallel, Little facilitated a two-day campus-wide workshop with leadership from various departments to identify and prioritize broader campus initiatives that support interdisciplinary learning and student success. The resulting plan offers Trinity actionable guidance for both short-term improvements and long-term capital planning to enhance its historic campus.

Project Goals
Trinity College was looking for a comprehensive, forward-looking framework to elevate the residential experience and strengthen campus connectivity. By assessing current conditions, engaging stakeholders, and outlining strategic improvements, the effort aligns near-term actions with Trinity’s long-range vision for a vibrant, student-centered campus.
- 01 Conduct a full assessment of all 19 residence halls, documenting existing building systems and overall physical conditions.
- 02 Define a prioritized renovation roadmap, outlining short- and long-term strategies, infrastructure upgrades, and exterior/green space enhancements.
- 03 Engage students and campus stakeholders through interactive workshops and feedback sessions to guide design and planning priorities.
- 04 Align campus-wide initiatives and future development with Trinity’s strategic vision for a more connected, collaborative, and student-centric environment.

Results
Guided by insight, collaboration, and a bold vision for the future, this planning effort charts a transformative path for Trinity’s campus and student experience.
The project resulted in a comprehensive Housing Action Plan outlining building condition scores, renovation recommendations, and a six-year phased schedule, supported by detailed cost estimates that account for projected inflation.
A dedicated student engagement session informed proposed improvements, while a broader planning process identified fifteen potential campus initiatives—ultimately distilled into five major priorities, including a Sophomore Village and a new science-focused academic building. Together, these outcomes position Trinity to advance with clarity and confidence toward revitalizing student housing and enriching overall campus life.
