Robeson County envisioned its new facility for the Department of Social Services as a place that would help facilitate its goal of providing comfort and help to the community.
With this in mind, our design team sought inspiration from the nearby Lumber River that had long been a provider for Robeson County throughout its history. The River became the inspiration for the layout of the site with a winding path that navigates between buildings and courtyard areas. The three, two-story buildings are linked together and connected by a large lobby and waiting areas that serve a critical function to DSS. The building’s solar orientation and depth honors sustainable strategies and maximize the connection to the landscape.
