Post-Occupancy Data Collection: Leveraging Data for Positive Change>/b>
Post-occupancy evaluations are critical for understanding how well a space meets its initial design criteria and fulfills the needs of its users, and for identifying areas for improvement. By systematically collecting and analyzing feedback, organizations can objectively evaluate project outcomes to better inform decisions and enhance future planning and project execution. However, Post-Occupancy evaluations are often done as an afterthought. How do we activate this powerful data collection tool to facilitate measurable improvements? Our team will present effective strategies for preparing post-occupancy evaluations, capturing information, and translating that data into actionable next steps and useful data points to support future evidence-based design and planning. Preparation for Post-Occupancy Evaluations: The first step in conducting a successful post-occupancy evaluation is to clearly identify the objectives. This involves understanding what information is needed and why it is important. Engaging stakeholders early in the process ensures that the evaluation addresses the concerns and priorities of all relevant parties. Selecting appropriate evaluation methods is also crucial. Different methods, such as GEMBA walks, surveys, and interviews, offer unique advantages and can be tailored to the specific context of the evaluation.
